Following the recent 21 story building collapse in Ikoyi, Lagos State, the Director-General\/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute (NBRRI), Engr. Prof Samson Duna in his quest to unravel the technical cause of the collapse and in a bid to prevent future occurrence of building collapse in the country, set up a technical committee comprising of professionals with high reputes in the built and construction environment to carry out the assignment. The committee has as its members;<\/div>\n
1. Bldr. Prof. Olumide Adenuga (Nigerian Institute of Building, NIOB) Committee\u2019s Chairman<\/div>\n
2. Dr. Olanade K. A (Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Lagos) Rep. COREN)<\/div>\n
3. Tpl. Moses Ofunleye (Nigerian Institute of Town Planners)<\/div>\n
4. Arc. Biola Akinola (Deputy Director, Architect Registration Council of Nigeria, ARCON)<\/div>\n
5. Chief (Barr.) Simon Ademu Ameh (Head of Chambers, Ameh, Ameh and Co)<\/div>\n
6. Engr. Dr. Nureni Sulymon (HoD, Building Research Department, NBRRI)<\/div>\n
7. Engr. Taofiq Bello (Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute, NBRRI) Committee\u2019s Secretary<\/div>\n
Dr. C. C Osadebe, Coordinator NBRRI\u2019s NLC, Ota\/Director Road Research Department represented the DG\/CEO, NBRRI at the inaugural meeting of the Technical Committee that was held at NBRRI\u2019s National Laboratory Complex (NLC) Ota, Ogun State on 15th November. 2021. In his remarks, he charged the committee to work with all diligence and come out with a standing technical report of international standard that will proffer solutions to building collapse in the country.<\/div>\n
The committee members were officially presented with letters of appointment by the coordinator, and they immediately swung into actions by deliberating and designating responsibilities amongst themselves on how to investigate and come up with a comprehensive report on how to avoid such incidence from occurring in the future.<\/div>\n
The chairman of the committee, Bldr. Prof. Olumide Adenuga emphasized that the essence of the committee is not to apportion blame but to find lasting solutions to prevent such ugly incidence from repeating in the future.<\/div>\n
