In continuation of its mandate of building capacity by addressing challenges in the building and Road Construction environment, the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute, has inaugurated the Planning committee to organize the 2015 NBRRI International Conference.

The flagship event of the Institute began in 2011 when a stakeholder’s forum was organized with the theme: Bridging the Gap between Building and Road Research and Stakeholder. In 2012, the focus of the NBRRI Conference was on Building Collapse with the theme: Curbing the incidences of Building Collapse in Nigeria.
In 2013, the conference dwelt on Road Pavement failure with the theme: Challenges of Road Pavement failure in Nigeria while in 2014, the gathering looked critically into Housing with the theme: Achieving Affordable Housing in Nigeria.

The inauguration and maiden meeting of the Planning committee took place in February 3rd, 2015 at the conference room of the NBRRI Administrative Headquarters, Abuja.
Membership of the Planning committee to organize the conference include the representative of the Federal Ministry of Woks, Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE); Council for the Regulation of Engineers in Nigeria (COREN); Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC); National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA); Nigeria Police; Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS); National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and Department of State Security Services.

Speaking at the meeting, the chairman of the committee and Director-General of NBRRI, Prof. Danladi Matawal, who was represented by the Committee Deputy Chairman, Dr. Francis Aitsebaomo, disclosed that this year’s conference will focus on Road Transport with the theme: Roadmap to Safe, Efficient and Sustainable Road Transportation in Nigeria.

The Chairman called on all members to make impactful deliberations that will ensure the success of the conference. During deliberations, the committee approved the following sub-themes that will addressed during the conference: Road Asset Management; Road Transport Safety Management; Traffic and Mobility; Accident Data Collection and Sites Studies; Financing effective Road Transportation Networks; Environmental impact issues of road construction and operations; Sustainable innovations in Road Design and Construction, Safety and Green Roads.

To ensure effectiveness, the Planning committee approved the following subcommittees: Finance subcommittee, Security subcommittee, Publicity and Public Relations subcommittee, Logistics/organizational subcommittee and Technical subcommittee. The subcommittees are to submit progress reports in subsequent meetings of the Planning committee.

The 2015 NBRRI International Conference is slated to hold from 16th -18th June, 2015 at the Shehu YarAdua Center,Abuja
