As in many countries, traditional construction trend in Nigeria is based on linear economy in which new resources are used to make products and elements that are later discarded at the end of the service life. However, emerging and innovative construction trend is hinged on Circular economy which essentially involves cascading the value addition derivable from existing economic structures, materials, products and innovations beyond the traditional life cycle.
It implies employing innovative construction management processes and skills to achieve increasing economic benefits on existing building elements and structures beyond the service life. In essence, it emphasizes zero waste and sustainability in construction, green construction, materials recycling and reclamation.
This can be achieved through various means including but not limited to ensuring higher level technical integrity and durability of products, product recycling for repeat use, adaptive designs, enhancing value chain of products, avoiding product contamination and toxicity in use, improvement of environment issues, among others.
This new constructiontrend has higher potential for increased value retention, value addition, quality, efficiency in cost reduction, reduced waste generation and creation of opportunities in contrast to prevailing linear economy being practiced in construction.
This International Conference is designed to be a platform not only to exchange ideas and create awareness on the new global transformative trend but also to showcase achievements so far made, as well as identify the advantages, future challenges and strategies to fast track the transformative journey.
Practitioners, researchers, academics, professionals, policy makers, etc in the built environment would derive optimum benefits from the Conference
