NIGERIAN BUILDING AND ROAD RESEARCH INSTITUTE (NBRRI) READY TO COLLABORATE WITH THE NIGERIAN INSTITUTE OF CIVIL ENGINEERS (NICE) IN AREA OF CONSTRUCTION AND RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT
The newly executives of the Nigerian Institute of Civil Engineers (NICE) led by its national chairman, Engr. Dr. Tanko Jang paid a courtesy visit to the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute (NBRRI) on Friday 12th March, 2021 at the Institute’s headquarter in Abuja.
In his opening speech, the National Chairman of NICE, Engr. Dr. T. Jang expressed his joy of appreciation to the Director-General/CEO of NBRRI, Prof. Samson Duna for his immeasurable care and show of love to NICE anytime he is called upon. He used this means to enumerate the 8 points agenda of NICE which are:
- Consolidation/Sustenance of the of the gains of previous administrations
- Promotion of unity and oneness of NICE
- Membership drive
- Harnessing of NICE Assets
- Professional Development
- Publication of Civil Engineering codes and standards
- Encouragement of NICE and NICESA Chapters to be more vibrant
- International Relationship
These he stated can be achieved through effective collaborations with other stakeholders like NBRRI.
In response, the DG/CEO of NBRRI, Prof. Samson Duna encouraged the institute to see NBRRI as their home and never hesitate to come up with research for collaboration with NBRRI for the betterment of the country. He also stated some key areas and life changing sponsorship NBRRI has done of recent which are:
- Collaboration with reputable stakeholders like FERMA, Federal Road Safety etc in carrying out an assessment cause of road failure in Abuja Lokoja Express way
- Funding and supply of standard Civil Engineering Equipment by NBRRI to 6 selected Universities in all the geo-political zones in the country with University of Uyo, Federal University of Technology Owerri, University of Lagos, University of Jos, Abubaka Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi and Amadu Bello University Zaria as the beneficiaries.
The DG/CEO finally promised to give his full support to NICE in areas of research so as to work in collaboration for improved economy of the country through R&Ds.
