PROF. SAMSON DUNA AS THE GUEST SPEAKER AT THE INVESTITURE CEREMONY OF ENGR. DR. JANG CHUKWAK TANKO AS THE 17TH NATIONAL CHAIRMAN OF THE NIGERIAN INSTITUTION OF CIVIL ENGINEERING (NICE)
The ceremony was held on Thursday 21st January 2021 in Jos, Plateau State. Declaring the event opened, the immediate past National Chairman of NICE, Engr. Mrs. Aishatu A. Umar spoke of the great feet the Institution has achieved in years past. She encouraged the new Chairman and executives to improve the standard of the Institution by not just maintaining the standard they met but improve on it and taking steps forward for a greater society and nation.
Delivering the keynote address on the topic “Engineering Skills Acquisition by Youth for Self Employment and Empowerment: A Veritable Tool for National Development”, Prof. Samson Duna, DG/CEO of NBRRI spoke on the negative effects of youths unemployment and restiveness in the country and also proffered some measures of curbing youths unemployment in the country.
He stated that skills centers should be built across the country to train artisans on various trades and empower them after the training so that they can be self-reliance and assist in building the nation. He further stated that patronizing these trained youths instead of engaging foreign expertrates from neighboring countries will also help in curbing the issue of unemployment to a large extent.
Finally, he tasked the Civil Engineers to come up with research proposals that NBRRI is always available for collaborations fundings of such proposals.
