Capacity building is the striving force behind any progressive work output. This has been the pushups behind the ideas of the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute, Engr. Prof. Samson Duna in making sure that all staff of the institute at various levels are trained via seminars, trainings and retreats. In view of training needs and to meet up with the evolving world of technology in the media world today the Public Relations Unit of the institute organized a two-day intensive training that took place on 1st and 2nd of February 2023 at the institute’s head office in Abuja with the theme “Strategic Media Tools for organizational Repositioning in the 21st Century”.
Addressing the participants and declaring the training open, the DG/CEO, who was duly represented by Chief Daniel Makava, Director, Consultancy and Extension Services Department urged the PR Staff to increase their work force and encouraged the staff to see it as a mandatory duty to follow the trend of events of the institute carried out by various departments as a Public Relations Officers and that Public Relations evolves in everyday life. He also stated that as a PR staff, in order be vast in knowledge, there is need for staff to empower themselves via training if the opportunity comes and not depend on the institute alone to organize training for them, this he says will not only be beneficial to the institute but more beneficial to the staff’s career.
Also speaking and encouraging the participants, the Director of Planning and Information Technology Department, Mr. Kehinde Arabi urged the participants to see this great opportunity as an avenue for improving their knowledge bank and increase the output of their work force. He stated that as the Director of the department, his aim is to see his staff competing positively in and outside the institute knowledge wise.
The two days training had experience facilitators who are renowned presenters and producers from NTA and BBC. They handled intensively the following topics as it concerns the work schedules of PR and media practitioners. The topics are as follows:
